How to play the F Major Chord on your piano or keyboard

From the chord symbol F we get the following information:

  • The F chord has the note F as root note
  • The F chord is a 3-note chord (a triad)
  • The F chord is a major chord

Because F is a 3-note chord it also has 3 inversions:

  • Root inversion
  • 1st. inversion
  • 2nd. inversion

F chord – Root inversion (basic inversion) looks like this: F – A – C

F chord – 1st. inversion (root note at the top of the chord): A – C – F

F chord – 2nd. inversion (root note in the middle of the chord): C – F – A
