A is one of the seven natural musical notes in the Western music system. It is located between G and B and is best known as the international reference note used for tuning musical instruments. This standard tuning note is called concert pitch and is defined as A = 440 Hz.

What is the musical note A?

In the C major scale, A is the sixth note. On the piano, every A is a white key positioned between the second and third black keys in each group of three black keys.

The most commonly used reference note is A4, which vibrates at 440 hertz (Hz), meaning 440 vibrations per second. This standard is used by orchestras, bands and instrument makers around the world to ensure that all instruments are in tune with each other.

How is the note A used in piano playing?

In chord symbols, the letter A by itself represents an A major chord. Additional symbols, such as Am or A7, indicate different types of A chords.
