A sample is a digital recording of a sound that is reused as part of a musical performance or production. Samples can range from single drum hits to complete musical phrases.

Samples are recorded sounds that can be played, edited, looped, pitched, layered, or processed using digital audio software or hardware. Modern music production relies heavily on samples for drums, instruments, vocals, sound effects, and orchestral libraries.
Many software instruments and digital pianos also use high-quality samples of real acoustic instruments to recreate authentic sounds.
How are Samples used in piano playing?
Most digital pianos and keyboards use sampled recordings of acoustic pianos to produce their sound. Keyboard players may also trigger orchestral sounds, synthesizer textures, percussion, or sound effects using samples during live performances or studio recordings.
