An equalizer (EQ) is a device or software tool used to adjust the balance of different frequency ranges in an audio signal. It is one of the most important tools in music production, live sound and recording.
What is an equalizer?
An equalizer works by boosting or reducing specific frequency ranges such as bass, midrange or treble. EQ is used to improve the tonal balance of individual instruments and to help multiple sounds fit together in a mix.

Piano players and producers use EQ to shape the instrument’s tone and improve clarity within a mix. For example, reducing unnecessary low frequencies can create space for the bass, while carefully boosting upper midrange frequencies can help the piano stand out without overpowering vocals or other instruments.
