Measure numbers are numbers placed above the staff to identify individual measures within a piece of music. They allow musicians to locate specific passages quickly during rehearsals, lessons, and performances.
What are Measure Numbers?
Measures are numbered consecutively from the beginning of a piece, making it easy to reference exact locations. Depending on the edition, measure numbers may appear at the beginning of every staff or above every measure.
They provide a fast and reliable way for performers, conductors, producers, and teachers to communicate without confusion.
