Playback is a performance in which musicians or singers perform in sync with a pre-recorded audio track instead of producing all of the sound live.
What is Playback?
Playback is commonly used in television productions, music videos, promotional appearances, and large live events where consistent audio quality is essential. In some performances, the entire musical track is pre-recorded, while others use backing tracks with live vocals or selected live instruments.
Successful playback requires accurate synchronization between the performers’ movements and the recorded music.
How is Playback used in piano playing?
Pianists may use playback during video productions, stage performances, or rehearsals that rely on pre-recorded tracks. To create a convincing performance, hand movements, timing, and musical gestures must match the recorded piano part precisely.
