F major is a major key based on the note F. Its key signature contains one flat: B♭.
What is F major?
The F major scale consists of the notes F, G, A, B♭, C, D and E. Its relative minor is D minor, which shares the same key signature.
The primary chords in F major are F major (I), B-flat major (IV) and C major (V). These chords form the harmonic foundation of the key.
How is F major used in piano playing?
F major is an excellent key for learning flat key signatures because it contains only one flat. Practicing its scales, chords and common chord progressions helps pianists become comfortable with both white and black keys.
