F is one of the seven natural musical notes and the fourth note of the C major scale. On the piano, F is the white key immediately to the left of the group of three black keys.
What is F?
In the equal temperament tuning system, F has a fixed pitch and serves many important harmonic functions. The note F is a semitone above E and a whole tone below G. It forms the tonic of F major and F minor and can also be altered to F-sharp (F#) or F-flat (F♭).
F appears naturally in countless scales, chords and melodies throughout Western music.
