Musical Note – Definition
A musical note is a written symbol that represents both the pitch and duration of a sound in musical notation.
What is a Musical Note?
Musical notes are placed on a staff to indicate pitch, while their shape shows rhythmic value. A note typically consists of a notehead, stem, and, in shorter note values, one or more flags or beams.
Together with clefs, key signatures, time signatures, rests, and other notation symbols, musical notes allow performers to read and interpret written music accurately.
How is a Musical Note used in piano playing?
Pianists read notes from the grand staff, which combines the treble and bass clefs. Each written note corresponds to a specific key on the keyboard and indicates both which key to play and how long the note should sound.
Learning to read musical notes helps pianists perform new music, understand musical structure, and communicate effectively with other musicians.
